radiohead has a new album coming out this year. that's what mr. ed o'brien is saying at least. i liked in rainbows, but i had issues with it. wilco got tons of flack for releasing an album that seemed to be made up of various phases in their collection of sounds. i gave them flack for that.
but wasn't in rainbows the same thing? listen to it again in that context and you hear the various sounds of their career. there's over-edited, cut-up tracks recalling kid a/amnesiac. there's melodic, soothing, soaring songs recalling o.k. computer. there are straightforward-ish songs recalling hail to the thief. i liked the album. but radiohead received praise where wilco received derision. they made the same album. neither one of them was horrible. but neither one of them was groundbreaking.
