oh boy

there's not much to say about today's texans game. kubiak is not a big time coach. schaub is not a big time quarterback. we will be one and done in houston against cincinnati. denver and new england have big time coaches and quarterbacks. but we're adequate enough to not be able to justify firing kubiak or ditching schaub. maybe green bay can hold on and at least fulfill one half of my super bowl prediction.oh well. baseball is coming soon and the astros will surprise people in their first season in the al west and only lose 100 games instead of the usual 120 games. good times ahead.

in other news, we attended our first REI garage sale saturday morning. okay, so in houston REI is not a big thing. we don't ski and we don't hike in houston. we eat and drink. a lot. however, in denver, REI is like a sacred place. skis, shoes, backpacks, winter hats and all sorts of camping essentials are sold and bought and sold again at REI. the people who work at REI know every detail about every piece of fabric and material used in REI products. for members, which i am, there are monthly garage sales. the garage sales feature items that people have brought back and they are resold for steep discounts. it's a big thing.

we woke up at 6:20 on a saturday morning. we had our coffee, from our new keurig coffee machine, thank you mom and jack, and headed out to REI. when you arrive you stand in line outside to draw a ticket. the tickets are different colors and the color you randomly select will determine when you get to go in. i drew the white ticket. demitria drew the red ticket. white was first to go inside. red was second. then there was green and yellow. at 8, the people with the white tickets lined up to go in. there is a separate room way up on the third floor where all these items are displayed. there are shoes, skis, jackets and all sorts of camping/outdoor stuff. you have twenty minutes to shop. then you have to leave the room and the next group comes in. i know, it's crazy.

i found an awesome patagonia jacket, a pair of hiking/snow shoes and a pair of hiking pants. demitria found this awesome old school cooler that locks so animals won't be able to get inside. we were through with our purchases and back to the car at about 9:30, the time we usually wake up on a saturday. we went for breakfast and then took a nice leisurely walk around wash park.

we are planning to attend the next garage sale in january. we're looking specifically for snow shoes and hiking poles next time. maybe another pair of hiking pants. i don't want to hike in blue jeans anymore. it's not the colorado way. it's also not comfortable. and it's not fashionable. but mostly it's the comfort. i also want to find a canoe or maybe a kayak. that might have to come from craigslist or something.

man i can't believe the texans. so much on the line for two weeks in a row and to show up and play like that twice. it's unbelievable. this place is going to be peyton crazy for the next two weeks. and if somehow we beat cincinnati, you know who is waiting for us? peyton manning and the denver broncos to play in denver. i wonder if i could get tickets? would i conceal my allegiance? would i paint my face? we'll have to see about these details later.
